The Irish Coffee: A Classic Cocktail

A recipe for a classic Irish Coffee, a warming cocktail made with hot coffee, Irish whiskey, sugar, and a layer of cream.

Ingredients

  • 1 1/2 oz (45ml) of Irish whiskey
  • 2 teaspoons of brown sugar
  • 6 oz of hot, strong-brewed coffee
  • 1 oz of heavy cream, lightly whipped

Instructions

  1. Step 1: Prepare the Glass and Cream - Preheat a heatproof glass with hot water. Lightly whip the heavy cream until it's slightly thickened but still pourable.
  2. Step 2: Dissolve the Sugar - In the warmed glass, combine the Irish whiskey, brown sugar, and hot coffee. Stir until the sugar is completely dissolved.
  3. Step 3: Float the Cream - Gently pour the lightly whipped cream over the back of a warm spoon to float it on top of the coffee. Do not stir. Serve immediately.
