The Turkish Coffee Tradition: A Guide to an Ancient Brew
Discover the art and ritual of preparing authentic Turkish coffee. This guide provides a step-by-step recipe for this ancient, unfiltered brewing method, resulting in a rich, thick, and intensely flavorful cup.
Ingredients
- 10g of coffee
- 100g of cold, filtered water
- Sugar (optional)
Instructions
- Step 1: Combine Ingredients - Add 10g of extra-finely ground coffee and 100g of cold, filtered water (and sugar, if using) to a cezve. Stir gently.
- Step 2: The Slow Brew - Place the cezve on low heat and do not stir again.
- Step 3: Build the Foam - As a dark foam forms, remove the cezve from the heat and scoop the foam into your cup. Return to heat and repeat 1-2 times, without letting it boil.
- Step 4: Serve and Settle - Pour the coffee slowly into the cup and let it rest for a minute for the grounds to settle.
